Palm TX Dock DIY :)

Recently I wanted to buy dock station from alpinetop, but they refused to accept my credit card (Visa), so I decided to create my own dock station. It took about 2 hours of all work. Simple but at least my palm don't lye on the table.
You will need:
  • 2 floppy disks
  • 2 or 3 cd/dvd
  • palm cable
  • rubber
  • double side sticky ribbon
  • screw
  • some twine
  • red loop

You will need also some tools...
image
I knew I will need them one day.. Let's choose victim! ;)
The best choice is black verbatim disk, but you can choose red or yellow one if you want ;)
image
First remove label from them, it will be much more easier to perform some tasks.
image
Now most difficult part, you need to remove piece of one layer from first floppy disk. Be carefull, you can easily cut your finger. You need to do this exactly on this side and this place. It's also important to use high dentisy double side disks, or You have to make additional holes.
On the top You have to make two holes - look at your connector - and try to choose best place for them. On next images You will see how important is to be precise or it will not fit and you will be unhappy with your dock station.
image
It should look like this in side view, as You can see it's important to have it exactly like here on photo.
image
One another photo showing this... Also as You can see I stick two disks so they are now one piece.
image
I told it's not easy, but I found best solution after few bad..!
image
Floppy sisks are very good as base, but they are moving on the table and we would like to have still dock, that's why we will use rubber.
image
Cut rubber to 2mm pieces, once again - be precise or You will waiste Your rubber or hurt.
image
cut...
image
...fit
image
...and stick to the bottom of disk.
image
If it looks like here - then it's correct :D
image
Repeat four times and and You will end up with such thing.
image
Now let's go to compact disks. First make exactly same hole on the bottom of them. You will use same screw so they have to be similiar.
Watch out while doing them because You can...
image
...brake disk.
image
It's better to make little hole and then increse it's size.
image
Stick two or more disks each other.
image
Now lets go to connector. Pull it to pieces as here.
Make two holes similiar to rest, they have to be on the back of connector - not front.
image
Remove one piece of plastic from connector to easly fit screw inside connector. If You have holes lower maybe You don't have to do this.
image
Now put everything on place and use screw to hold it together. You will have to make few attempts befeore You succeed, it's easy when you have perfect screws and holes. I tried three or four times before it went well.
Don't make mistake by putting cable by wrong side, also remember to pass it through hole in disk.

Try palm if it's good place for him, You can always correct space between it and dock. I made it perfectly but forgot about some space to plug it in comfortable and I had to put piece of rubber between connector and floppy disk. Connector is made of plastic so it's flexible and You can also gain some 2mm, which can save your life ;)
image image
Floppy disk is also flexible, but good angle for it is up to 90 degree. Of course this is too less for palm to lye on dock so we have to change it.
I had problem here, because I could not find something to do this task, eventually I decided to use piece of twine, the best angle for me it was something like LCD of my notebook, you can of course choose whatever You want :D
image
And the most important element!
The end! Dock Ready :D

Now tidy up this mess :)

Ok, that's all :) I hope You enjoy watching :) It was great fun for me, sometime everybody need to do something unusual. ;)
I considered also putting some speakers, hotsync button but don't have parts to do this. Maybe I will buy some and then make a change. I'm plan to put some fence on CD to have more comfortable docking, maybe only at the bottom - I will see. Also I will change twine to something hard, it would be better.
I think about putting external power source to connector, it's easy and very comfortable. I have usb charger so this should be only right connection.
Ok, that's all I wanted. I hope You have fun watching this site :D
